Workshop: *Navigating Latin American Spanish Dialects* “¿Qué decís?” – exploración de la variante argentina del español

Format: Virtual (Zoom) – Open to TAJIT members and guests (registration for this free event is required) (Workshop will be in Spanish)
Join us for a dynamic session with Professors Sonia Bierbrauer (CV) (Universidad de Córdoba) and Hilda Tejada (CV) (UNAM, UMass Amherst), as we explore this variant from the rich diversity of Latin American Spanish dialects and how you can enhance your skills and up your game as interpreters and translators. This short workshop will equip you with strategies to navigate:
✔ Local context and variations (e.g., Argentine voseo, yeismo, acentuación, vocabulary) ✔ Pronunciation & slang, humor, irony ✔ Cultural nuances – avoiding pitfalls and knowing what could help you succeed in legal, medical, and court and community settings
Who should attend?
✓ ASL and spoken language interpreters and translators with Spanish in their combination. This workshop will be in Spanish. ✓ Interpreters working with Latin American clients. ✓ Language professionals preparing for diverse Spanish-speaking populations ✓ Anyone curious about dialectal adaptability!
Guests: REGISTRATION is required and the workshop is FREE.
The Zoom link will be emailed to registrants two days before the event and again the afternoon of the event.
